Blacksmith Demonstration Live

Service Description

We will provide a live blacksmithing demonstration showcasing historical and modern skills and techniques on site, with either solid fuel or gas forges (or both). Demonstration can often be targeted to a particular historical period, with appropriate skills demonstrated, static display items plus hands-on items for audience to hold/examine. Historical anecdotes and knowledge points are included. Audience interaction is on-going, with questions answered even while forging. Pre-event / Post-event prep and cleanup are not charged. The fee is $25/hour for the active (gates open til close) portion of the event, plus one hour for set up and also for breakdown. The demonstrator will interact with the audience for a minimum of 80-90 percent of the time, weather permitting, with only short breaks as needed. Multi-day events will receive a discount provided the demonstration equipment can be kept securely on site (as there is less labor for repeated set up/tear down). As far as possible, the demo and the demonstrator can be specific for a particular historical period or theme. Unless specifically requested, the demonstration will not include techniques that are more prone to hot particles/sparks flying any significant distance. If the customer requests demos with higher risks (like forge welding), appropriate safety measures must be implemented AND satisfy the safety concerns of the demonstrator/blacksmith.
